Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia I.P (LNEG)

National Laboratory for Energy and Geology

LNEG is a public research body that sits within the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Energy. As part of their building related research they are monitoring the performance of their own Net Zero Energy Building. This offers practical insight and allows suitable recommendations to be integrated into the development of government policies. LNEG also supports Concerted Actions on RES and EPBD. The main research areas are:

  • Act as interface between R&D and technology integration for the private sectors
  • Work with international partner organisations on harmonising and integrating international and European legislation in Portugal

Below are a number of examples demonstrating their experience in building energy performance.

  • FRAME - Prefabricated systems for low energy buildings: design, modulation, prototyping and testing
  • LASURE+ - Development of innovative solutions for protection of high energy efficiency materials through the use of natural and environment friendly products
  • LBA – B - Characterization of fuels and biofuels
  • LCiP - Life Cycle in Practice Demonstration project in the field of life cycle management in industry. In Portugal, the target sectors are construction materials and renewable energy products.
  • UrbiLCA - Lifecycle assessment and improvement of energy efficiency in urban areas (SUDOE - Interreg IV B, Jul. 2013-Dec. 2014)
