Comitato Termotecnico Italiano (CTI)

Italian Thermotechnical Committee Energy and Environment

CTI is a not-for‐profit organisation, with about 500 company members, which is part of UNI (Italian Certification Body). CTI is involved in numerous technical committees, developing building energy performance standards, for both ISO and CEN, see lists below. ISO is the International standardisation body and CEN (European Committee for Standardization) its’ European equivalent.

ISO standardisation activities:

  • TC 163 Thermal performance and energy use in the built environment
  • TC 205 Building environment design) CTI considers very important to support promotion of this topic.

CEN standardisation activities:

TC 371 Energy Performance of buildingsTC 89 Thermal performance of buildings and building componentsTC 156 Ventilation for buildingsTC 228 Heating systems in buildingsTC 247 Building Automation, Controls and Building Management;

CTI is also an active member of the Liaison Committee (CAP-EDMC-LC), responsible for promoting cooperation between the Chair Advisory Panel (CEN-CAP) and the Energy Demand Management Committee (EDMC). This is part of the European Commission’s Concerted Action (CA3) EPBD, set up to promote dialogue and exchange of best practice between EU countries. Below are a number of examples demonstrating their experience in building energy performance.

  • Certification of products and processes for the heat market, covering generation, distribution, management and industrial processes (UNI, CEN, ISO)
  • Support the Italian government (Economic Development, Environment & Territorial Protection), as well as other public authorities on a regional and local level (e.g. in Lombardy Region and other Provinces, Municipalities)
  • Research into sustainable energy systems and delivering EU projects
  • Complete energy building performance for commercial clients using audit software
  • Various training courses on waste, heat pumps, splitting communal heating bills, etc
